When a windshield is cracked beyond a safe repair, replacement is the right call. Bright Auto Glass PDX replaces windshields on cars, SUVs, minivans, and trucks throughout Portland, Oregon, with mobile service available so you do not have to drive on damaged glass.
When a windshield needs to be replaced
Not every crack can be repaired. As a general guide, replacement is usually needed when:
- The crack is longer than a few inches or is spreading
- Damage sits directly in the driver's line of sight
- A chip or crack reaches the edge of the windshield
- The glass is pitted, shattered, or has multiple damage points
- Damage has gone all the way through both layers of glass
If you are not sure whether yours can be repaired or needs replacing, send us a photo and we will give you an honest answer.
How we replace your windshield
We remove the damaged glass, clean and prep the pinch weld, and lay fresh urethane adhesive for a proper, sealed bond. We fit quality OEM or aftermarket glass to match your vehicle, then let the adhesive cure before the car is driven. Done right, the new windshield is sealed against leaks and wind noise and restores the structural strength the glass is meant to provide.
ADAS recalibration on newer vehicles
Many recent vehicles have a forward-facing camera mounted to the windshield that drives lane-keeping, automatic braking, and other driver-assist features. When the windshield is replaced, that camera often needs to be recalibrated so those systems read the road correctly. If your vehicle needs it, we will tell you up front so it is handled as part of the job.
OEM and aftermarket glass
We can fit original equipment (OEM) glass or quality aftermarket glass depending on your vehicle, your budget, and what your insurance covers. We will explain the difference so you can choose what makes sense for you.
